Workshops & Commissions
Workshops
Through my workshops I aim to focus on the creative and artistic aspects of image capture and to help photographers to clarify their own ‘vision’ and express it more potently. This process is essentially one of helping participants to ‘see’ a good photograph and then going on to use an understanding of psychological, creative and artistic principles to express that ‘vision’ effectively through the camera.
One-to-one landscape photography workshops by appointment at chosen locations on Dartmoor. £120 per half-day or £150 for a full day (the fee is reduced if there are extra participants). The fee only covers tuition, guidance and a tutorial as appropriate. We meet at the site and explore it on foot. If we move on to other sites you will need your own transportation. Please also bring your own refreshments and snacks. A deposit of £20 is required at the time of booking with the rest being payable on the day.
Please contact me to arrange a workshop.

Safaris can, of course, be expensive once-in-a-lifetime trips with the costs including luxury lodges, park entrance fees, vehicles and expert guides. We have been working hard, however, to make it a more affordable experience and currently are offering these two excellent-value trip itineraries to Tanzania. We have tried to keep the cost down, whilst also ensuring maximum exposure to the wildlife with excellent photographic opportunities and, of course, a good level of comfort. Respecting the needs of enthusiastic photographers we have also ensured plenty of space in the vehicles and facilities for recharging batteries etc. So, sign up quickly as places are limited:

With the help of Ryan Snider of 'Socially Responsible Safaris' I have put together a really special itinerary for this tour that I will lead through some of the finest reserves in Africa.
It will be an all-inclusive safari touring northern Tanzania and is suitable for photographers of all grades and, of course, any travelling companions. The itinerary will include visiting the awesome Ngorongoro crater and the plains to the south of the Serengeti to witness the spectacular wildebeest migration reaching these parts and, finally, the very different surrounds of Lake Manyara National Park. The locations were chosen on account of their amazing scenery and terrific concentrations of wildlife with a great range of species to be encountered. The itinerary will be ideal for those keen to experience and photograph the abundant wildlife and majestic landscapes of this wonderful part of Africa and will also provide opportunities to meet with the local people.
Click here for more details of the itinerary.
Ryan and Tricia Snider founded 'Socially Responsible Safaris' with one goal – to provide an opportunity for others to learn about the African continent, thereby inspiring them to create positive change. The aim of their safaris is to bring positive change to local communities, involve environmentally sensitive accommodations, plant trees to off-set carbon emissions and generate meaningful relationships with host communities, schools and orphanages along their routes. In partnership with GIVE International, a charitable trust committed to education, primary health care and child development, a portion of trip proceeds is donated to the various initiatives that we visit along our route. To read more about SRS and their forthcoming safaris click here.
This safari is excellent value for money as we have done our best to keep the costs down on account of the financial pressures many are experiencing. Despite this, we have managed to keep a good measure of comfort at the lodges and still to ensure the best guides and viewing and photographing opportunities from the vehicles. The duration has been kept to 8-days, as this gives you the opportunity to extend your trip with further safaris or perhaps some time relaxing on Zanzibar.
Please contact me to register an interest as places will be limited.
I am also planning to lead a safari in South Africa later in 2012. Again, please register your interest as early as possible.

This one-week small group workshop will take place in the Southern Peloponnese of Greece which offers some stunning coastal and mountain scenery – ideal for improving your landscape photography skills. It will be conducted in English and will be open to visitors who will be accommodated in the charming small seaside town of Kardamili, and to local people who can commit themselves to the 6-day schedule.

Daily ‘photo-shoot’ excursions will be made to local sites of beauty, making use of early morning or evening light, so participants will need to have a digital camera at the very least and ideally a tripod. Some time will also be set aside each day for analysis of the results and discussion of theory and techniques. The excursions and discussion time will amount to about 4-5 hours per day, so there will also be a good portion of ‘free-time’ each day for relaxation, enabling participants to spend time with their travelling companions.
These workshops run in the late Spring and early Autumn when conditions tend to be ideal for landscape work. My fee for the workshop is £300. This doesn’t include your flight (direct flights to Kalamata airport), accommodation (I will suggest hotels for this and provide you with contact information to make bookings) or food and refreshments. You will also be expected to arrange your own travel insurance. Please contact me to register your interest and book a space. A deposit of £200 is required at the time of booking with the balance being due one month before the workshop commences. Payment will be refunded in full should the workshop be cancelled for any reason.
See the News & Discussion page for a review and photos from one of the 2010 workshops.
Direct flights to nearby Kalamata run from the UK on Saturdays and Sundays. Help can be provided with transfers from the airport to your accommodation if it is not included in your package and if you are not hiring a car. Package deals are available through companies such as Simply Travel. Flights also come directly to Kalamata from Norway (Lilleput Travel) and Holland (Ross Holidays) and possibly Germany.
One option for making the payment is through the PayPal system on this site by going to the Workshop Payment Gallery and clicking on the image that appears.
Commissions
I would be pleased to consider commissions offering myself as a photographer working primarily in the fields of wildlife and landscape photography. I am based in Devon, but I am also pleased to have opportunities to travel, so please contact me with any proposals.
